Descriptions of call:
- Short call: call is from 5 pm to 8 pm doing admissions.
- Call back: back up call for the residents in-house. This is our 2nd string for Jeopardy. If the hospital gets busy and the ICU resident feels additional help is needed, and the Jeopardy resident is already working, the callback resident is called in. This is done only in 2nd and 3rd years.
- Variable: occurs as the jeopardy resident; if you are jeopardized, you are called in to cover the duties of another resident who is out for personal reasons or emergencies. You are given 24-hour advance notice, and your continuity clinics are not cancelled.
