A free workshop sponsored and hosted by Contra Costa Health Services will be held for restaurants, grocery stores and other food retailers.

Who:

The workshop is designed for managers and owners of food retail businesses of all sizes and types, from mom-and-pop restaurants to food chains to workplace cafeterias.

When:

Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Where:

Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services Division, 50 Glacier Drive, Martinez, CA

Why:

Foodborne illnesses sicken millions of people every year in the United States and cost businesses an estimated $6 billion annually. The best way for a retail food operator to minimize their risk is to have a plan, and know where to find help in the event of a foodborne illness outbreak or food-product recall.

This free workshop can help a business of any size develop best practices to prevent foodborne illness, benefit from strong relationships with regulatory partners, and create response plans in the event of illness outbreaks, customer or product complaints, or food recalls.

Contra Costa Environmental Health and Public Health, divisions of Contra Costa Health Services, are sponsors and hosts of this event, which is provided by the National Environmental Health Association.
