Contra Costa to Celebrate Opening of Center for Medically Fragile Homeless Adults

What:
A grand opening ceremony will be held Thursday for a new facility where homeless adults can go when then they leave a hospital and still need medical care. Speakers for the opening of the Philip Dorn Respite Center include State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, Contra Costa Health Services Director Dr. William Walker, Contra Costa Public Health Director Dr. Wendel Brunner and Contra Costa Homeless Program Director Cynthia Belon.
When:
The ceremony will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 10.
Where:
Philip Dorn Respite Center is located at 2047D Arnold Industrial Way, Concord.
Why:
The 24-bed facility is a transitional safety net for homeless people who cannot get medical stabilization services at an emergency shelter. The facility is expected to serve as many as 380 homeless adults per year. The center is a joint effort of Contra Costa Health Services' Homeless and Health Care for the Homeless Programs. It receives support from Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, Doctors Medical Center, John Muir Health, Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Delta Medical Center.
