Public Service Announcement Urges Action Against Alcohol, Drug Abuse

What:
Contra Costa County community members are urged to join the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board and help fight substance abuse in a new public service announcement produced by the Board. There are currently several vacancies on the Board. The mission of the Advisory Board is to assess community needs regarding prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse problems. The Advisory Board advises the county Board of Supervisors and Contra Costa Health Services on alcohol and drug abuse issues and related solutions. The PSA can be viewed at the Advisory Board's webpage, www.cchealth.org/groups/aod_board/.
Who:
Volunteers must be 16 years or older, live or work in Contra Costa County and should have a knowledge of, or an interest in addressing, alcohol and other drug issues in the community. Members must commit to a two-year term, with meetings on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 3:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Central County.

Why:
The PSA discusses the prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse in Contra Costa and how communities are affected. CCHS Alcohol and Other Drugs Services Director Haven Fearn said the diverse viewpoints are needed to have an impact in the county.
