Friday, January 16, 2009
EDITOR´S NOTE: Media interested in covering the Homeless Count can go to the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle, at 6 a.m. on January 28. Media interested in attending a training session should first coordinate with Homeless Program Director Cynthia Belon.
What:
Volunteers are still needed for the 2009 Contra Costa Health Services Homeless Count. Homeless Program staff and community volunteers will set out on a countywide mission on January 28 to collect data on the county´s homeless population. More than 100 Contra Costa residents have already signed up to volunteer. All volunteers must attend a one-hour training session.
When and Where:
The count will take place from 6 to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
Training sessions will be held at:
Concord Police Department
1350 Galindo Street, Concord
January 21 at 6:30 - 8 p.m. OR
January 22 at 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Grace Lutheran Church
2369 Barrett Avenue, Richmond
January 22 at 7 - 8:30 p.m. OR
January 23 at 12:30 - 2 p.m.
Why:
The count will help the Homeless Program assess the progress it is making in reaching the goals and objectives outlined in its 10-year Plan to End Homelessness in the county. By documenting the extent of the problem, Contra Costa Health Services is able to request funding for the homeless services and housing provided throughout the county. An estimated 15,000 people experience homelessness in Contra Costa each year.
How:
People interested in volunteering should contact Rachel Goldman at 510-282-7840 or rachel@homebaseccc.org. People may also sign up to volunteer at one of the four training sessions.
