World Breastfeeding Week Celebration at Contra Costa WIC Offices

July 24, 2006

Offices of the Women Infants and Children program (WIC) Concord, Richmond and Pittsburg will be celebrating World Breastfeeding Week along with many other WIC offices in the Bay Area from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, August 3.

WIC staff and volunteers will provide fun, prizes and snacks along with information about nutrition, breastfeeding and oral health for WIC participants and county staff. At 2 p.m., WIC offices throughout the Bay Area will attempt to set a world record for the most women in an area latching-on their babies to breastfeed at the same time.

"Past celebrations at Bay Area WIC programs have been successful in bringing attention to the benefits of breastfeeding for infants, their mothers, families and society," said Nancy Hill, Breastfeeding Program Coordinator for Contra Costa Health Services. "We hope to duplicate their success this year."

This activity is supported by generous donations from The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, Hollister Inc., Medela Inc., The Bay Area Lactation Association, Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, Contra Costa Certified Farmers' Markets, Target Stores, Prime Time Nutrition, General Mills and Welch's.

If you would like to participate in the latch-on, volunteer to help out at a site, or make a donation for raffle prizes, please call Nancy Hill at 925-313-6260 or Beverly Clark at 925-646-5376.
