An important countywide health advisory board has three new members but is still looking for qualified applicants for two open seats.

The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors on July 15 approved the appointments of Ha Yong Choi of Richmond, Clyde J. Trombettas of Martinez and Margaret Stauffer of Pittsburg to the county's Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board (PEHAB). PEHAB advises the health department on community needs related to public and environmental health, and the appointees will represent, respectively, the immigrant community, the general population at-large and East County at-large.

"As our county gets increasingly diverse, with numerous additional health concerns and issues to address, the health department needs as much community input as possible to help in protecting and improving the health of residents," says Andrea Dubrow, PEHAB Executive Assistant.

Dubrow says that even with the three new appointees, two PEHAB seats (there are 19 in all) continue to be unfilled. One is the seat representing labor, the other is an additional East County at-large seat. Applicants for either seat should be Contra Costa County residents with a specific interest in public or community health. PEHAB is committed to diversity in its membership, and residents from a broad range of community and health settings are encouraged to apply.

According to Dubrow, candidates are asked to submit a written application - application packets are available by calling Jan Millar at 925-313-6712. An interview is then scheduled with current PEHAB members, who will make recommendations to the county Board of Supervisors based on which candidate's background and skills are a best match for the vacant seats on the board.
